Sachin K. Patel
I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, running amok in the Sandia Mountains and
Enjoying the beautiful desert climate. I graduated from Albuquerque Academy (HS)
in 1992, and decided to attend the Honors College at the University of Houston to
study the biochemical and biophysical sciences. I am particularly interested in
relating macromolecular structure to specific function in living organisms, and
in subsequently applying such principles to developing medicines that prevent
certain genetic diseases. I enjoy interacting with the various students and
professors in the BCHS and CHEM department, particularly with the members of our
group. I hope to enter medical school in the fall of 1996, and begin to integrate
medical knowledge with manipulation of disease at the molecular level.
Other Stuff
I have a variety of interests outside of the academic environment, including
playing rugby, lifting weights, playing electric guitar, biking, mountain
climbing, and sailing (when I have access to a boat!). I enjoy reading
scientific journals and books, medical literature, philosophic pieces, short
stories, and even editorials.
